The Joy of the Lord

In Nehemiah 8, we read of how the Israelites heard the reading of God’s Law for the first time in years. They were moved to weeping and mourning. However, they were instructed to stop weeping, but rather go and enjoy the best food and drink. “Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength,” Nehemiah told them. When we see God for who he truly is I believe we will be moved to rejoicing and celebration, shouting our praise to God.

Splendor and majesty are before him;

strength and joy in his dwelling place.

Ascribe to the LORD, O families of nations,

ascribe to the LORD glory and strength,

ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name.

Bring an offering and come before him;

worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.

1 Chronicles 16:27-29
